About the role

About the Company

Icebox Energy is building critical cooling infrastructure for the next generation of data

centers—meeting the demands of AI and high-density compute without relying on water or

synthetic refrigerants. Our platform is engineered from the outside in, using carbon dioxide as a

natural working fluid to solve thermal bottlenecks with cleaner, more scalable technology.

While our initial focus is data centers, our core technology has broader applications across

energy, industrial cooling, and heat reuse—wherever performance, efficiency, and sustainability

need to align.

We strive for success—not just in what we build, but in how we build it. We value integrity,

initiative, and thoughtful innovation.

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Engineer with thermodynamics expertise to

join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for applying thermodynamic principles to

the design, analysis, and optimization of mechanical systems and components. You will work

closely with a multidisciplinary team to ensure that projects are completed on time, within

budget, and meet all quality standards.

This is a unique opportunity to drive industry transformation and shape the technological future

of our organization. We offer competitive remuneration packages with wide-ranging benefits as

well as an inclusive, collaborative, forward-thinking work environment that nurtures career

development.

Responsibilities

● Spearheading development of components such as the compressor core, high-pressure

and CDU hardware, and expansion devices

● Applying thermodynamic principles to analyze and optimize mechanical systems,

components, and processes

● Conducting thermodynamic modeling and simulations to predict system performance

and identify areas for improvement

● Designing and developing energy-efficient solutions that maximize thermal efficiency

and minimize environmental impact

● Collaborating with other engineers and team members to integrate thermodynamic

considerations into project design and implementation

● Performing thermodynamic analyses and calculations to support project feasibility

studies and cost assessments

● Conducting experiments and tests to validate thermodynamic models and verify system

performance

● Developing and maintaining technical documentation related to thermodynamic

analyses, simulations, and test results

● Staying updated with industry trends, advancements, and best practices in

thermodynamics and related fields

Qualifications

● Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field

● 5+ years of experience in mechanical design and product development

● Proven experience in applying thermodynamic principles to mechanical design, analysis,

and optimization, particularly with compressors, high-pressure hardware, CDU

hardware, and/or expansion devices

● Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and other engineering tools

● Strong understanding of thermodynamic cycles, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and

energy conversion systems

● Startup or startup-like experience, with the mentality to excel in a fast-paced R&D

environment

Preferred Skills

● Advanced degree specializing in thermodynamics

● Proficiency in thermodynamic modeling and simulation software (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS,

Aspen Plus)

● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills

● Effective communication and collaboration abilities within a multidisciplinary team

● Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively

● Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and best practices in thermodynamics

and related areas
